Wrestlers Background:: Lawrence Rhodes is the younger brother of ex- E-EUROPEAN FEDERATION German Champion Ryan Rhodes. Like his brother, Lawrence was born in Lewisham, South London. He has spent the past 5 years training in differing fighting styles at the Krypt - a South London Gym under the tutelage of Kendo Nagasaki. Lawrence spent his early years trying to emulate his brothers boxing skills. However whilst his brother became National ABA Welterweight Champion, Junior as Ryan refers to his little brother only had a 50/50 win/ loss record and needed something else to stimulate his sporting thirst. Lawrence initially attended the Krypt out of curiosity as Ryan was training full time there. It was only after childhood friend Louis Angel started training at the gym that Lawrence took himself seriously. Louis Angel turned professional starting in the Atlanta based IFWF, then teaming up with Ryan Rhodes in the New York based DECWF. Lawrence although jealous of his friend realised that he was not quite ready for the professional circuit and continued to increase his knowledge and skills by training with a lot of wrestlers passing through the Gym. Lawrence Rhodes was ready to turn professional in 1998 but Louis Angel was diagnosed with Hepatitis B and as such the Krypt was closed down for 3 months whilst all the members where given vigorous blood checks. Lawrences childhood friend Louis Angel died in February 1999 and it is only now that Lawrence Rhodes has refocused enough to be able to compete at a high level. Lawrence has taken on Louis Angels old moniker 'Luscious' in memory of his boyhood friend. Currently: Lawrence Rhodes signed his first professional contract with the SWL (Stars Wrestling League) based in Syracuse in early 2000. Rhodes caused a bit of a surprise by getting to the final match in the Quaser Championship tournament where he took on "Brutal Youth" Brad Williams, Micheal Cage, and the eventual winner Vindicator Following this Rhodes settled into some mid card battles not really proving his potential. However in Mid March 2000, Rhodes began to show signs of some illness and not wanting to put his career on hold appeared for his matches sweating and coughing. Seeing an opportunity 'Heartthrob' Tommy Havock the SWL Spotlight Champion called out Rhodes. He suggested that Rhodes had an illness called Valley Fever and began spreading rumours that it was deadly contagious. Many SWL stars refused to wrestle Rhodes, thus putting the management in a tricky situation. Should then suspend Rhodes until better or even fire him. Luckily Tommy Havock was caught on camera telling the world how he had tricked Rhodes and how he had conned Rhodes out of a lot of money to get a cure. Rhodes upset the odds at Stargate and defeated Havock to pick up his first ever Championship belt. Rhodes was a champion and began to believe he was one. Rhodes surrounded himself with lovely girls, champagne, and caviar ? and proclaimed this was the life for him. He went as far as running down 'The Regulator' Bret Real who had been SWL World and Quasar Champion on separate occasions. Real wanted a piece of Rhodes but Rhodes suggested that Real was past it. When the match was made Rhodes came out to suggest that he would put the belt on the line against the winner of a battle royal that he set up. Rhodes didn't think Bret Real could beat him ? which in fact he did, so this left Rhodes alongside the also rans again. Rhodes settled into a bit of a losing streak until he was approached by the SWL most notorious man Grinnin, to join with him and Johnny Spades in the Wrecking Crew. Rhodes saw this as a chance to move up a notch in the SWL and readily joined the faction. Within days Rhodes saw that he had made a mistake. He was treated as a second rate citizen by Grinnin ? who left him to book the hire cars, sort out the hotels etc. The final straw came when Rizzo had Rhodes arrested after their match but Rhodes was left in jail whilest Grinnin and Spades set off down to Vegas to play the tables. Rhodes saw the light. At Zero Tolerance during the Grinnin/ Brian Williams main event Rhodes split from the Wrecking Crew and ided with the Regulators.
